Vietnam Wood Waste Pellet Project

The user operates a medium-sized wood factory in southern Vietnam, producing pine and fir panels and semi-finished furniture for local and export markets. Daily cutting and planing generate over 40 tons of wood waste per month, including sawdust, shavings, and offcuts.

Previously, this waste was sold for just 30 to 40 dollars per ton, bringing low returns while taking up space and creating dust. As the waste accumulated, the factory saw its potential and began looking for better use.

In early 2023, the owner installed a 350-model flat die wood pellet machine to process the waste. Since the wood is already low in moisture, no drying is needed. The material is crushed and fed directly into the machine. The line runs 3 to 4 hours per day and produces around 1 to 2 tons of pellets.

The plant started in June 2023 and now produces 50–55 tons of pellets monthly. Most are used by local brick, cement, and boiler plants, with some exported to South Korea and Japan. The pellets burn well with low dust, and the line has run steadily with minimal maintenance since launch.

Final pellets mainly supply local boiler users and commercial stove shops. With a market price of 90 to 110 dollars per ton, the pellets bring much higher returns than raw waste, while also solving the storage and dust issues caused by waste buildup.

The factory is now planning to expand its storage and packaging capacity, aiming to gradually transition into a small-scale pellet fuel supplier.
